Here’s how
I can help.

I pull from the therapeutic approaches of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Gottman Method

My Services

My office is in the centrally-located Brookside neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri.

Individual Sessions

I will learn as much as I can about your worldview and how it was formed; help you make connections between this worldview and your thoughts, behaviors and feelings; help you accept, cope with and tolerate the natural human condition of discomfort; and encourage you to commit to a value-aligned life, as defined by you.

Couples Sessions

For a couple, my process is very similar to how I conduct individual sessions, but I’d be working to identify patterns and themes for each individual as well as for the couple. I would help you to better understand these patterns and your partner, foster a sense of curiosity within your relationship, and help you effectively work together and stay on the same team.

What to Expect

Counseling can be a challenging experience, so fostering a therapeutic relationship in which you feel supported and safe throughout our time working together is of the utmost importance.

I approach my clients with curiosity - I want to know how you see the world, what your values are, what your narrative is (and if you’re not sure, no worries! We discover this together.).

Based on your counseling goals and what we uncover during the intake process, we’ll determine your therapeutic goals.

From there, we work your treatment plan with intention and flexibility. My counseling style pulls from my primary theoretical orientation of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This means I’ll compassionately hold you accountable, so that you can see real change.

I hope to get my clients to a point where they feel capable and self-assured in their everyday lives, not just when they’re in the counseling room.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The theoretical orientations I pull from often require folks to have a mind’s eye and/or the ability to consider abstract concepts; often, younger clients have not yet reached the developmental stage in which they can think abstractly or consider multiple perspectives. This is why I believe I can be most helpful to a slightly older population.

I work with couples because of my natural ability to empathize with more than one worldview at once and mediate between conflicting perspectives.

Because I am a woman, I can personally relate to many struggles faced by women and how systemic and societal issues influence how we move through the world.

And, finally, I specified that I like working with folks who feel motivated because of my personal experience and industry research. According to a peer-reviewed article from Ryan et al. (2011), “positive and lasting results most likely occur when a client becomes actively engaged and personally invested in change” (p. 194). A client’s “want-to” is a great predictor of counseling effectiveness!

While I can work with a wide range of folks, I’ve found that these populations are who I can make the greatest strides with.

  • I value my clients’ time and resources. The counseling process can be a long-term or short-term process, and the length of time we meet will be a collaborative decision. All sessions are 50 minutes in length. If you’re motivated, I hope to get right to the issue, effectively and efficiently, which depending on your presenting problem, could take a matter of a few sessions to ten sessions. But, if you like the accountability that a long-term therapeutic relationship can provide, we can continue to meet for longer. We’ll work together to determine what works best for you.

  • At this time, I am only taking self-pay clients. I offer a sliding scale for clients who are not able to pay full fees.

  • I offer counseling sessions in-person and online. I'm available on most weekdays with my last session beginning at 5:30pm.

  • You’ll visit my Contact page to send a message my way. From there, I’ll reach out to set up a 10-15 minute case consultation (at no charge) to briefly touch base about your counseling needs and to see if my expertise fits your needs well. If we could be a good match, we’ll schedule an intake session!
